The Safe Schools, Healthy Students grant was written in collaboration with Educational Services District 101 and serves six school districts throughout Spokane county including Spokane, Cheney, Deer Park, Medical Lake, Nine Mile, and Riverside.
The overall goal of this initiative is to create a comprehensive county-wide safety system, to strengthen and expand existing community partnerships, and to link to a broader range of community resources.
Now in its second year, the Safe Schools, Healthy Students Initiative is moving forward to provide a safe school environment for all students, preventing violence and substance abuse, providing access to mental health services in the schools and early childhood psychosocial and emotional development programs, and supporting and connecting schools and the community.
The purpose of this initiative is to provide
comprehensive safety networks for children in the areas
of:

- Substance use/abuse reduction
- Increased school attendance
