in 2006 and 2007.

Current Activities:
- Student Assistance Specialists (SAS) were hired in the fall of 2005 to enhance current SAS programs at the high school levels. The SAS program uses the 9 program components and the development of student leadership teams to reduce substance use and promote substance education and awareness in youth. In addition, SAS at the middle level are adopting Life Skills Curriculum to enhance education, refusal skills and knowledge of harm regarding substance use in youth.
- Through the use of leadership teams, county wide prevention activities are underway. Activities such as Washington Drug Free Youth (WDFY) clubs, Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) mentoring, healthy groups for girls and mediation programs, have been developed county wide.
- In order to improve programming, community and school members have currently interviewed panels of diverse students within project high schools regarding their understanding of current needs, thought on effective practices, and program wants. Interviews will be completed in May, 2006. Information gathered will be utilized to improve community and school programming in the areas of drug/alcohol, anti-bullying/harassment and violence for youth.
- Two part-time employees have been hired to provide project schools and community with training in restorative practices, disproportionality, development and training in anti-bullying/harassment cadre models, provide awareness and access of contact through the development of a diverse parent education network, and the development of school- community interventions/preventions models for youth violence.
- Student leadership teams are currently in the process of being developed through coordination of SAS staff. Currently 3 leadership teams have been developed with 7 more left to complete. Although not currently in practice until leadership teams have been completely established within all high schools, a county wide advisory/leadership team will be developed from this pool of students in order to develop further county wide prevention activities.
- The development/expansion of a high school re-entry program has been completed with the establishment of location, coordination of input from administrators representing all project high schools, hiring of staff, development of referral, qualifications, and screening process, curriculum development and enrollment of students. Enrollment is currently full. Program implementation began in February 2006.
