School and Community Mental Health
Preventive and Treatment Intervention Services
Mental Health Group Team Leaders: Dave Crump (Spokane Public Schools), and Teresa Wright (YFA Connections)
Goals:
- Increase mental health services to all children by 5% in 2005, 10% in 2006, and 10% in 2007.
- Improve school and community understanding of mental health issues from baseline.
- Improve services to under-served youth and families by 5% in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
Current Activities:
- Contracts with the Regional Services Network and YFA Connections, bidding and the hiring 10 mental health therapists has been completed and therapists are providing services within 41 project schools.
- Education for school and community members is also underway based on requests and area needs. Although partnerships and conversations have occurred regarding the creation of new ideas to serve children not eligible for Medicaid, this work has not fully occurred. This effort is just in the beginning stages.
